JFK: CAMELOT

July 21st 2008 01:13
Long, long ago in a faraway land there was a king and his beautiful queen....and this was Camelot.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the thirty-fifth President of the United States, and Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy were designated American Royalty with the beginning of his presidency in 1961. Camelot was born in the eyes of the American Public. This was to be a presidency of hope and change.

I'm not going to dwell on JFK's war experiences as a decorated naval officer, his administrations policies, confrontations with the Russians, Cuba or Vietnam. Nor am I going to comment on his assassination, and the many conspiracy theories. All of this has been covered numerous times and can be researched by anyone.

John and Jacqueline Kennedy were younger than many who preceded them and they were POPULAR! They were political movie stars who the American public never tired of hearing about and followed their every move. The public loved the young President's family, as did the media, especially doting on Caroline and John Jr.
President Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy gave the Presidency a glamorous facade within the United States and throughout the world that will never be matched again. He brought with him an aura of hope, change and a better world.

In his inaugural speech he won over America when he said," Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." And America believed he would never sell them out to to highest bidder for any reason and that he would truly protect our way of life. Americans felt they had a friend in the young President, even with all of his faults.

With John Fitzgerald Kennedy's death, America lost it's innocence. We watched in horror as someone murdered our President and America cried, along with the world. We hoped for a miracle, but sadly watched John - John salute the passing of his father.

After the last seven disastrous years of the current Presidency, we need a new era of hope, change and maybe an aura of glamour. Americans need to believe we have a President who truly cares about us and can give us back our dignity and way of life.

We need a new Camelot.
